John Kwamina Montford is a Chartered Safety and Health Practitioner certified by the
International Institute of Safety and Health (IOSH) UK, Approved NEBOSH Examiner, UK, and
Lead Auditor for ISO 45001, 14001 and 9001 management systems. He is a versatile HSE
and Process Safety Professional.
He is the Advisory Board Chairman of the Oil and Gas Safety Groupe, Ghana and has more
than twenty years Health, Safety, Environment and Process Safety experience in Oil Refinery
operations, Mining and Telecommunications industries. John has hands – on skills and
experience in designing, implementing, maintaining and continually improving a variety of
Health, Safety and Environmental Management systems in companies including AngloGold
Ashanti, Obuasi Mine, Vodafone Ghana and Tema Oil Refinery. Through his leadership, the
companies he worked for received various Health and Safety awards and certifications
including OHSAS 18001, International Safety Rating System Levels 5 certification and also
Significantly contributed to the achievement of the prestigious PAN African Chartered Institute
of Purchasing and Supplies (CIPS) “2010 Best Procurement Community” award for Vodafone
for raising Health and Safety awareness and introducing best practice. Some significant
contributions he made include his immense contribution in a robust OHSMS and Process
Safety Management which resulted in securing insurance premiums at 60% of the prevailing
market rate in 2019 for Tema Oil Refinery.
He is a Mining Engineer from the University of Science and Technology now KNUST, and also
holds an International Executive Master’s degree in Business Administration from Paris
Graduate School of Management, Post Graduate certificate in Management from International
Professional Managers Association, UK, NEBOSH International Diploma in Occupational
Safety and Health , UK, NEBOSH International General Certificate in Occupational Safety and
Health, UK and NEBOSH / HSE certificate in Process Safety Management, UK. He is an expert
in Incident Investigation using root cause analysis. He also has numerous qualifications in
health, safety and environment.
John is a role model and has greatly influenced many organizations in embedding HSE and
Process Safety in organisations which resulted in high commitment and compliance with
requirements and best practice. He is very passionate when it comes to training and influencing
top management including Board of Directors & senior managers, line managers and the
workforce in delivering first class HSE and Process Safety standards. He assisted the
University Of Ghana, School Of Public Health in designing Emergency Preparedness and
course module for part time attendees and also assisted in lecturing.
He is also a full member of the Institute of Risk and Safety Management (IIRSM), both in UK.
